BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.85 percent, at 3,477.22 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.72 percent higher at 14,990.11 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.29 trillion yuan (about 200 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.42 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to automobiles and sports showed strong performance, while those in medical appliance services and dairy industries led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.47 percent to close at 3,563.13 points Wednesday.
