Chinese boxer Gu Hong edged American Oshae Jones to grab a ticket to the women's welterweight final at Tokyo 2020.
TOKYO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese boxer Gu Hong proceeded to the women's welterweight final at Tokyo 2020 here on Wednesday after beating Oshae Jones of the United States in the semifinals.
No.2 seed Gu kept the bout under control with her impressive footwork. Gu gained the upper hand when three judges out of five scored 20-18 in her favor over the first two rounds, which left little chance for Jones in the last round, allowing Gu to win the bout on a 4-1 split decision.
"I didn't expect to be in the final when I was home," Gu said, adding that reaching the final is a reward for her hard work in recent years.
Gu will face top seed Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the gold medal match on Saturday.
