The Los Angeles Galaxy acquired veteran defender Jorge Villafana from the Portland Timbers on Tuesday.
L.A. also received the Timbers' 2021 first-round draft pick (16th overall) in exchange for the Galaxy's first-rounder (No. 8 overall). Portland could also receive additional allocation money based on Villafana's unspecified future performance.
"Jorge is a talented veteran defender with extensive experience playing at a high level in Major League Soccer," Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese said in a news release. "We are confident in his ability to contribute to our club on the field, in our locker room and in our community. We are excited to welcome Jorge home and have him join our club."
Villafana, 31, has tallied 10 goals and 24 assists in 188 career appearances in MLS with Chivas USA (2007-13) and the Timbers (2014-15, 2018-20).
The Anaheim, Calif., product had one goal and five assists in 19 matches (17 starts) in 2020. He ranks fifth in Portland history in assists (18) and ninth in appearances (102).
