Phil Mickelson and former NBA All-Star Charles Barkley came out victorious Friday in a made-for-television match play event against former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.

Mickelson and Barkley delivered a 4-and-3 victory over Manning and Curry in The Match 3: Champions for Change at Stone Canyon Golf Club outside of Tucson, Ariz.

It was a curious paring of a professional golfer in Mickelson and a current basketball analyst in Barkley, whose swing at celebrity golf events has been ridiculed over the years. Barkley's swing is much improved, but the presence of Mickelson is what Manning and Curry could not overcome.

Mickelson/Barkley took a 4-up lead at No. 7, when Manning/Curry came away with a doble bogey on the par-5 hole and were never threatened the rest of the day. Mickelson/Barkley led by at least three holes throughout the remainder of the match.

The match ended at the par-3 No. 15 hole when each team delivered a par. A 6-foot putt from Mickelson sealed the victory

"Two people ... two people thought this was going to happen: you and me and that's it," Mickelson said while walking off the final green as the sun was setting.

The event ended up raising $4.4 million for historically Black colleges and universities.

The Match series started when Mickelson defeated Tiger Woods over 22 holes in 2018 at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. The second installment, The Match: Champions for Charity, was won earlier this year by Woods and Manning over Mickelson and quarterback Tom Brady.
