Dodgers reinstate RHP Buehler in advance of postseason

The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated right-hander Walker Buehler from the 10-day injured list on Thursday, giving him one last chance to prove he is healthy for the upcoming playoffs.

Buehler has landed on the IL twice in the last five weeks with a blister at the tip of his right index finger. During his more recent outing Sept. 8 at Arizona, he lasted just 2 2/3 innings and was removed with blood coming from the finger through a hole in what appeared to be a callus.

The fourth-year pitcher is a key component to what the Dodgers hope will be a deep playoff run. He has already been named one of two Dodgers starters that will be used in next week's opening round of the playoffs, along with left-hander Clayton Kershaw.

Buehler, 26, is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in just seven starts this season. He has been lightly used even when he has taken the mound, with just one six-inning start. He has reached 90 pitches in an outing just once.

An All-Star in 2019, Buehler is 24-9 with a 3.19 ERA in 69 career appearances (60 starts). He finished third in National League rookie-of-the-year voting in 2018.

In a corresponding move Thursday, the Dodgers optioned left-hander Mitch White back to the club's alternate training site.
