USS Bonhomme Richard is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship home-ported in San Diego.

LOS ANGELES, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Several sailors were injured Sunday morning in a fire on a U.S. Navy ship at Naval Base San Diego in California, authorities said.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said that it is assisting on the fire on board the USS Bonhomme Richard, adding the department is working in unified command with federal firefighters to put out the blaze.

Several sailors are being treated for a variety of injuries, the department said.

The department said it responded to the fire around 9 a.m. local time.
