Portland Timbers midfielder Andres Flores will be away from the team for its MLS is Back Tournament opener due to personal reasons, the team announced.
Flores, 29, traveled to be with his family prior to his father's passing, per manager Giovanni Savarese.
"He had to go there for personal reasons, to be there and make sure he can spend a little bit of time with his father prior to that, then to deal with the situation after," Savarese said. "Our hearts are with him. Our minds and prayers are with him, so right now he's not with the group."
Flores recorded one goal and three assists in 41 appearances (20 starts) during the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Timbers, who are set to face the Los Angeles Galaxy in a Group F match on Monday night.
