The new-look Chicago Fire added a new face to its roster Saturday, signing defender Boris Sekulic from Slovakia on a three-year contract.

Sekulic is awaiting his international transfer certificate and will occupy an international roster spot for the Fire. The 28-year old has played professionally in Serbia, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Poland. He arrives to Chicago on a transfer from Gornik Zabrze in Poland's top league.

"Boris is a talented and smart defender that will immediately strengthen our backline," Fire head coach Raphael Wicky said in a statement.

The Fire went through a rebranding in the offseason, changing their uniform and altering their color scheme. The team also is moving to Soldier Field, home of the NFL's Chicago Bears, after playing in its own stadium in suburban Bridgeview.

Currently training in Southern California in advance of the 2020 season, the Fire will open its regular-season schedule March 1 on the road against the Seattle Sounders. They will make their return to Soldier Field on March 21 against Atlanta United.
